Social Media Marketing & Strategy

For as long as I've written and edited professionally, I have also worked as a social media specialist. This includes writing and optimizing content for massive social audiences, but also programming and strategizing across major social networks for brands like Cheezburger, Celebuzz/SpinMedia, and CafeMom. Below is a snapshot of my work in social media marketing.

Cheezburger

My work as a social media specialist began in 2009 when I began working at Cheezburger. I quickly learned to spot and exploit internet trends and to use social sharing data to inform content decisions. Nearly all of my work as a writer/editor involved creating sharable content with a social audience in mind or sourcing socially relevant content and repackaging it for our audiences. Additionally, I also helped program several of Cheezburger's social channels, including the flagship I Can Has Cheezburger Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter accounts.

In 2013, I began work at Celebuzz as a Community Manager, focusing predominately on on-site engagement campaigns. (For example, I launched a yearly bracket-style campaign called March Music Madness, which generated hundreds of thousands of pageviews and votes and eventually became a sponsored campaign.) I was shortly promoted to Senior Community Manager and began managing other social and community managers working for sites like Vibe, Stereogum, Idolator, The Frisky, and more, Within a few months, I took ownership of Celebuzz's massive owned social channels, implemented tracking and testing methods, redefined the brand voice, and eventually grew free owned social referrals to nearly 7 million/month from just 700K/month.

Additionally, I produced meticulous reports on social data in order to influence editorial strategy. I also often shared analytical insights and best practices with other teams in the company, from sales and marketing professionals to executives.

CafeMom

In 2017, I acted as the Social Media Director for CafeMom, the largest of CafeMedia's brands. I was responsible for developing a Facebook strategy for the official CafeMom page as well as dozens of other unbranded pages owned and operated by the company. All told, the total social audience reached north of 30 million. My work in this role involved defining a brand voice for the pages on Facebook, setting and maintaining a video and photo strategy, constant deep dives into social analytics, editorial content recommendations, content partnership management, and community management. During my time in this role, the majority of the pages I managed saw growth each month in terms of traffic sent back to CafeMom.com, video views, and organic reach.
